IS JESUS LORD OF YOUR LIFE? – (5 Disc Album) What is the difference between a “ouch potato” and an Olympic athlete? Obviously they are similar inasmuch as they are both alive. But they are dissimilar in the degree to which they experience that life–one is lazy, overweight and immobile–except for thumb exercises on the TV remote control–while the other is physically fit and vibrant with vitality and energy. To be totally deprived of life is to be dead, but choosing to be deprived of its available abundance is to choose to vegetate rather than invigorate oneself. Tragically, many Christians are merely “vegetative” followers of Christ; they’ve never opened themselves to the fullness of grace (sharing in God’s own life–2 Pet. 1:4). They aren’t open to the abundance of that transmissible life from heavenís God-man emissary, Jesus, who proffered Godís life to us in one of his most consequential statements: “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). (Abundance, in John’s writings connotes newness.) Jesus, as God, immersed himself in our humanity to convey something new to us–an overflowing flood of the very life of God–the fullness and newness of a new birth, a new and re-invigorated life, being “born again.” In receiving Jesus as our Lord and Savior we are reborn as a “child of God” (John 1:12). Our stance of “receiving” opens the treasure chest: “from his fullness (abundance) we have all received, grace upon grace” (verse 16). This “receiving” of him is simply submitting to his lordship–to his dominion or control–over every part of our lives. This four-hour series of talks spells out how surprisingly easy it is to avoid being a Christian “couch potato.”
