The Gang’s All Here – And Jesus Too!

$1.00

You’ve heard, I’m sure, the clever quip that has become bromide– “When all else fails, follow directions.” It’s a norm that we follow when pumping gas, opening a pill bottle, or reviving a comatose computer.

Unfortunately, we often ignore that norm when attending religious services, like Mass or any prayer-centered group gathering. The “directions” that we are called to follow are seldom if ever, stated or explained by the presiding clergyman, but those directions are well known by Christians who are familiar with the Bible. It is there in God’s holy word that we can learn to be aware of the very special and personal presence and power of Jesus himself among the prayer-gathered group.

There’s an awesome depth of meaning in the simple words of Jesus in Matthew 18:19-20: “Truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” That special Jesus-presence carries with it an enormous element of divine power, as Paul says in 1 Corinthians 5:4: “When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus…the power of the Lord Jesus is.”

In our public (liturgical) and private prayer gatherings, grace flows in abundance, but only if it is not thwarted by apathy, routinism, or dissipating distractions. This talk shows how not to waste the precious moments whenwe are gathered together to worship the Lord.
