4 Secrets for Enjoying the Word of God. Very few people are aware that the Bible contains a fascinating collection of encyclopedic facts, such as principles of good hygiene, the dangers of eating animal fat, the nutritional benefits of fruits, vegetables and high-fiber foods. It even designates the time of greatest immunity to infection (the eighth day after birth for circumcision). Scripture tells us where to look for underground oil deposits, and even provides God’s own bread recipe, formulated to sustain the prophet Ezekiel (Ezek, 4: 9-10); nutritionists tell us that no other known food contains all 18 amino acids, 8 of which are essential to human nutrition. But even more significant than such informative earthly material data is the invaluable spiritual information that Scripture provides for us. In the process it provides us with enjoyment, enchantment, enlightenment and enrichment. Most importantly, God’s word tells us how to get the most out of His word–Jesus’ four divine “secrets” revealed in his parable of the sower of the seed (Matthew 13, Mark 4 and Luke 8). It’s those principles that are explored in this popular talk by Father Hampsch.
